The "Wireless Networks" tab is missing - still
This is a new posting for a previously unresolved issue. Previous post: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/xpnetwork/thread/4aed9bf1-9879-4c18-ada1-f2492e74d1b7I am still trying to troublshoot a wireless connection: The wireless "View Available Wireless Networks" dialog does not show any available networks. The "Wireless Networks" tab is missing from the wireless network connection properties window. In the previous installation, the wireless simply stopped working after removing a series of malware. When I tried to diagnose the problem, I noticed that the "Wireless Networks" tab was missing. After much fussing with the computer, I decided to simply re-load it.At this point, I have done the following:On a Lenovo, ThinkPad T30, I have Reloaded Windows XP, SP3 from original Windows disks (not the customized Lenovo disks, but actual over the counter Windows XP Pro OS disks). The only Lenovo drivers I have loaded are for the Display and the Wireless Card. The Lenovo custom wireless software (ThinkVantage Access Connections) is not loaded, just the Intel device driver.(Note: before loading the Intel device driver, the wireless card simply shows up as "Unknown Device" in the device manager.)The wireless device is identified in the device manager as "Intel High Rate Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter with Modem II". Using Net Stumbler and Net View, both programs show the wireless radio is communicating with several wireless networks is close proximity. When I look in the Intel settings (located in the control panel), the status indicates it is "Associating".Any ideas on how to restore this tab? Is there a registry place to look?1 person needs an answerI do too

Update: With the new Windows XP installation (this is about the 5th reload - I start with a new load with each experiment), I found an update for the Lenovo/IBM chipset "Windows supplement" that when installed, and the wireless driver is installed after, restores the "Wireless Networks" tab.So I decided to update the computer....Unfortunately, when I allowed Windows to download and install a massive number of updates, at the last installation, the "Wireless Networks" tab is now missing again. (I have the updates set to download and install on prompt)Now that I think back to when this issue first started, I had just removed a number of malware programs and installed the Windows updates. That is when the Wireless first failed. I assumed that the malware was responsible, however I am now thinking it may be related to the updates. At this point, the only software loaded onto the computer is: Windows XP SP3, all of the recent updates, the Lenovo/IBM chipset "Windows supplement" update, and the wireless driver.I am missing something, but can not figure out what it is. At least now I know that the wireless card is working.
